Kidsburg playground to close for ongoing construction


LEWISBURG – The borough of Lewisburg has announced that Kidsburg playground will be closed for an indefinite period starting Monday. The closure is for safety purposes and the result of re-construction to the streambank of Bull Run. Construction begins Monday and will continue through January. Kidsburg playground at Hufnagle Park will be closed during construction and residents are encouraged to use the playground at the Lewisburg Area Recreation Park on St. Mary Street. Selinsgrove Seals playoff football is tonight


  SELINSGROVE — It’s Round 2 of the PIAA football championships and the Selinsgrove Seals will take on the Allentown Central Catholic Vikings. Mike Walter is a senior and running back for the Seals and says they are familiar with this team, because they beat them a few years ago on their way to the state championship. Walter is excited at how far the team has come this year.   He said, “I’ve always had high expectations. I really wanted to win the district championship. Convicted murderer to represent himself in his appeal

  LEWISBURG – A man convicted of second-degree murder in Union County Court in October will be allowed to represent himself in his appeal process. The Standard Journal reports Roderick Sims requested and was granted permission to dismiss his attorney Michael Dennehy and represent himself. Union County President Judge Michael Sholley presided over the trial and granted Sims permission to dismiss his attorney. Sims was convicted on October 31st of killing Charity Spickler in a Lewisburg apartment in 2008. Attorney Michael Dennehy put Commonwealth Superior Court on notice that Sims would appeal his conviction. (Ali Stevens)   Follow

Police release surveillance video of van thief

Watch police surveillance video here: POINT TWP – Point Township Police continue their investigation into a stolen Service Electric Cablevision van.  The van was stolen Saturday, November 24 around 9:00p.m. at SECV’s Point Township location.  It was recovered Tuesday morning in Danville, but police are still searching for the person who took the van.  Police have released surveillance video of the theft.  The video shows a man walking to the driver’s side of the van, getting into the van and driving the vehicle away from the business. Another work truck stolen locally

  MILTON — For the second time in a week, a work truck has been stolen in The Valley. This time in Milton–a truck owned by Martin’s of Milton, was taken sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The truck–a Martin’s potato chip deliver truck was loaded with boxes of chips. It is a white, older model Chevrolet cargo van with ‘Martin’s’ logos painted on the sides.   The van has the name ‘Dave’ posted on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle and has the number 38 painted on both sides of the vehicle. Holiday Express train rides in Sunbury this Saturday

SUNBURY – The Holiday Express train rides have become a tradition each year to support Fort Discovery Playground in Sunbury.  Fran Zartman is co-coordinator for the event and said, “People board the train behind Zimmerman Motors onMarket Streetin Sunbury.  It’s just a fabulous time.  The train is decorated in icicle lights and there is festive music.  A story is read on the train.”   There is also a visit from Santa Claus, who meets with the children.  Zartman says it’s their annual fundraiser to supportFortDiscovery.
