POINT TWP – Point Township supervisors voted to fire Point Township police officer Wade Lytle Monday night. Lytle is accused of having a romantic relationship with a sexual abuse victim, in a case he was investigating. At the supervisors’ meeting, Lytle read a statement he prepared. He said he was a successful investigator, and took his job very seriously. He said he thought he was doing the right thing in telling Point Township Police Chief Joshua VanKirk that he was going to get romantically involved with the woman. SUNBURY — Northumberland County Commissioner Vinny Clausi says several officials have failed to act appropriately in the investigation of Point Township police officer Wade Lytle.  Lytle is accused of having a romantic relationship with a sexual abuse victim, in a case he was investigating. The victim was apparently a cousin of Point Township police chief Josh VanKirk, something Clausi says may present a conflict of interest.  “We are concerned with what happened between Point Township and the district attorney’s office,” says Clausi.  “If the DA’s office knew about it, why prosecute VanKirk’s cousin if they can not win.  They can not win this case, they have to take it some place else that can handle…

A new gymnasium for Northumberland Christian School

NORTHUMBERLAND – Northumberland Christian School is excited to start basketball season in their new gymnasium. Doug Wesner is the school’s athletic director and says this is the first time they will be able to host basketball games at their school. The new school building was purchased in 2005 and the new gymnasium will be finished soon.   Wesner said, “When we play our alumni games here on Black Friday, this will be the first game ever on our actual home court. And then the gym dedication and the actual home games will be December 14th.   The project cost $560-thousand to complete. Bank robbery in Beaver Springs…another attempted in McClure

BEAVER SPRINGS – State police say a bank robbery in Beaver Springs and an attempted bank robbery in McClure are connected. Police say a man entered the outer doors of the Mifflin County Savings Bank in McClure around 9 a.m.  A bank employee says the suspect was not able to get into the bank due to a security door.  He then left the premises and proceeded to the Swineford National Bank in Beaver Springs around 9:30 this morning.  The man entered the bank and demanded money and got away with an undetermined amount of cash.  No weapon was displayed. Danville area woman seriously hurt in a crash

  DANVILLE – A Danville area woman is listed in serious condition at Geisinger Medical Center following a crash on Sunday along Frosty Valley Road. A car rolled over around noon and struck a utility pole. Utility lines were knocked onto the road, leaving several homes without power for a time on Sunday. The Press Enterprise reports Wanda Fuller and her passenger, 72-year-old Kate Humbert of Valley Township, were transported to the hospital. Humbert is listed in serious condition today at Geisinger. Fuller was treated and released. (Ali Stevens)  

Woman’s son is a person of interest in Milton death

MILTON– Details are slowly emerging in a death investigation in Milton.  The Milton Police Department tells us they are investigating a suspicious death that occurred at 8 Park Lane in Milton.  80-year-old Vennie Boyles was killed. Coroner James Kelley has not stated how Boyles died.  He tells us there will be an autopsy done tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Medical Center and then he can rule on the manner of death. Milton Police are looking to speak to Boyles’ son, Mark Boyles, who they say is a person of interest regarding the incident.  There is also an investigation of a missing car from the scene. Milton police, state troopers and fire personnel were at…

Congressman Marino refuses OTM appearance   SUNBURY — U.S Congressman Tom Marino (R-10th, Cogan Station) withdrew from a scheduled ‘On The Mark’ appearance that was scheduled for Monday morning on WKOK–now his democratic opponent says he’ll take advantage of the opening.   On On The Mark at 8:30am, democratic 11th district candidate Gene Stilp will make last minute appearance. First graduation for Veteran’s Court
