Vehicle theft at Wood Mode

MIDDLEBURG — Middleburg police are investigating a motor vehicle theft.  The vehicle, owned by a Beavertown man, was stolen from the Wood Mode parking lot in Snyder County.  Police say sometime between 12:30p.m. and 1:30a.m. on Wednesday an unknown male gained access to the blue S10 pick up truck and left with it. The vehicle was later recovered along Route 522 in Penn Township.  The male is described as as a middle aged white man with a medium build about 5’8″ to 5’10″ wearing dark clothing.  The investigation continues.  Anyone with information is asked to call Middleburg Police at 837-0321.  (Codi Jade) Follow

Tractor-trailer fire on Route 147

POINT TWP — A tractor-trailer filled with cartons of milk caught fire this morning in Point Township. No injuries were reported, but the cleanup was extensive after the incident around 6:30a.m. JR Erdley of the William Cameron Engine Company in Lewisburg says the driver of the tractor-trailer, Jarvis Shepard of Georgia, noticed some resistant in the trailer while driving on Route 147 near Route 405. It was then he stopped to unhook the trailer and it caught fire. The blaze was out in about 10 minutes, but the cleanup was extensive and took several hours into the late afternoon. A Christmas tree tradition in Buffalo Valley

MIFFLINBURG — It’s that time again, when Buffalo Valley pushes their produce aside and auctions Christmas trees.  The Buffalo Valley Tree Auction will be held on Tuesday November 20 at 8:00a.m.  There will be over 80,000 cut and baled trees available at auction-low prices.  The auction will continue into Wednesday if necessary.  (Codi Jade) Follow

Burglary at local tavern

MILTON –Milton police are investigating a burglary at a local tavern.  Police say sometime between 12:30a.m. and 2:30p.m. on Wednesday someone broke into Mindy’s Tavern in West Chillisquaque Township. The thief stole $418 cash, several bottles of liquor, a case of beer, a television and a lottery machine, which in total is worth about $800.  An investigation is pending.  (Codi Jade) Follow

Fire destroys a Point Township home

  POINT TOWNSHIP– Fire has destroyed a home in Point Township,Northumberland County.  The blaze broke out at 2048 Duke Street around 11:15 a.m.  The home was owned by Robert Whary, who smelled smoke and opened the basement door to find the fire in the cellar.  He was able to get out safely.  Whary says he doesn’t know what caused it.  He said he knows it started in the basement, but there was nothing down there.  His car was also destroyed by the fire. Man shoots a bull and is charged with animal cruelty

MIDDLEBURG – A Middleburg man has been charged with animal cruelty after police say she shot a more than 300-pound bull that wandered into his grandmother’s garden. The Daily Item reports 26-year-old Andrew Hestor told police he shot the bull to protect his grandmother’s produce garden. However, Hestor reportedly took the dead animal to the butcher and tried to get it processed. The owner of the animal from Beavertown, reported the incident to police after the butcher contacted him.   MILTON – One man was injured in a rollover crash on westbound Interstate 80 in Turbot Township, Northumberland County. State police say 39-year-old Christopher Ryan of Watsontown drove off the road and into the median before his SUV rolled several times on Sunday afternoon. He was taken to Geisinger Medical Center with minor injuries. He will be cited for the accident. (Ali Stevens)   Follow

Local chorus to represent PA in D.C.

LEWISBURG — The Lewisburg Area High School Chorus will be singing this Christmas — in Washington D.C. The U.S. Department of the Interior recently chose Lewisburg to perform at the 2012 National Christmas Tree Music Program at a park adjacent to the White House. They will be representing Pennsylvania as they perform along with groups from across the country. The performance is scheduled for 8p.m. Tuesday, December 11 in Washington D.C. (Codi Jade)   Follow
