Columbia County man charged with assaulting his baby

  BLOOMSBURG — A Columbia County man has been charged with assaulting his 2-month-old baby girl. State police say 18-year-old Andrew Hess of North Center Township admitted to twisting the baby’s legs to make her stop crying. Doctors at Geisinger Medical Center said the baby’s leg was broken and further examination showed the child’s leg was broken two other times before that. The baby is now being cared for at a shelter and Hess is charged with child endangerment and assault. (Ali Stevens)   Follow

Danville woman hurt in a crash in Northumberland County

WATSONTOWN — A Danville woman was injured in a crash on Friday in Delaware Township, Northumberland County. State police say 30-year-old Barbara Romanic was driving on the Susquehanna Trail when another vehicle pulled in front of her from the Interstate 180 exit ramp. Romanic was taken to Geisinger Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries. The other driver, 19-year-old Chelsea Torano from Levittown was not injured, but was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign. (Ali Stevens) Follow

Many arrested during a DUI checkpoint in Snyder County

  SELINSGROVE — There were several people arrested after a DUI checkpoint on Friday night in Snyder County and five illegal immigrants were also discovered. State police from Selinsgrove, Stonington and Milton took part in the checkpoint on Friday. There were also five illegal immigrants from El Salvador and Honduras that came through the checkpoint. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement was contacted and will be conducting an investigation.   A 20-year-old Middleburg man was charged with DUI and underage drinking. A 21-year-old Selinsgrove woman was charged with DUI. A 19-year-old Sunbury woman was charged with DUI, underage drinking and possession of drug paraphernalia. Attempted robbery at a convenience store in Northumberland County

MILTON — State police are looking for a man who tried to rob a convenience store in Milton on Saturday afternoon. Troopers say the man walked into the Sunoco store on Route 254, in Turbot Township around 2:15 p.m. the man demanded money from the store’s register. The store clerk activated the panic alarm and the man fled towards Milton on foot. No weapons were seen by the clerk.   The man is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. High speed chase through four counties Saturday

UNDATED — A Muncy man was arrested after a high-speed chase with police through four counties on Saturday. State police tried to stop 42-year-old Robert Steele, but he sped away in his vehicle and led police on a chase through Lycoming, Columbia, Montour and Northumberland Counties. Police say they were finally able to stop Steele after about 35 miles. Steele was arrested and will be charged with felony fleeing and eluding and DUI charges. Man wanted for bank robberies is caught

MIDDLEBURG — The man wanted for robbing the Swineford National Bank in Beaver Springs along with two other robberies is now in custody. 38-year-old Richard Lockett of Harrisburg was taken into custody on Friday and will be formally charged on Monday, according to state police. Lockett is charged with the bank robbery in Beaver Springs on November 5th along with two other robberies in Port Royal and Thompsontown.   He is also suspected of the attempted robbery at a bank in McClure on November 5th. Lockett is being held in the Mifflin County Prison on a probation violation. (Ali Stevens)   Follow
