Thief takes video games

MILTON — Milton police are investigating a theft in Montour County.  Police say someone entered a home and stole a Playstation 3, a black controller and three games on November 9.  The theft occured sometime between 5:00a.m. and 2:30p.m.  The investigation continues.  (Codi Jade) Follow

An early start to Black Friday

SELINSGROVE — The traditional “Black Friday” shopping started early this year.  One local store opened their doors at 8:00p.m. Thanksgiving Day.  Crowds of customers poured in as the doors opened, but what do people think of these deals on Thanksgiving day? Learning about Celiac Disease and gluten-free


  SUNBURY – You may have heard about gluten-free diets or Celiac Disease, which is more commonly diagnosed in the last several years. Beth Stark is a registered dietician for Weis Markets and says it’s an autoimmune disease that happens in the small intestines and can be genetic. Those who have Celiac Disease must follow a diet that is gluten-free. Dramatic decrease in bears harvested this season


  HARRISBURG – Preliminary bear season numbers are in and there was a dramatic decrease in the number of bears harvested this year. Early figures show just over 2,400 bears were harvested. Last year, 3,023 bears were taken in the three-day season. The largest bear harvested was taken November 20th in Greene Township, Pike County, weighing 706 pounds.   The top county for bear harvesting is Lycoming County, where more than 230 bears harvested. In our region, there were eight bears taken in Northumberland County, 59 in Union County and seven in Snyder County. Two local districts are high ranking

SUNBURY – A former school board member and education expert says school districts that perform well know how to spend money properly on priority areas. Cindy O’Hora of Selinsgrove says there is a good resource for seeing how local school districts compare to others in the state.   O’Hora said the Pittsburgh Business Times rank all the school districts in the state based on academic achievement. They take the last three years of achievement on the PSSA’s in reading, math, science and writing and they aggregate the data to reach a ranking.   Two local districts were ranked very well including Lewisburg, which is the highest ranking school district in the region.
