HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Gov. Tom Corbett is stressing bipartisanship as he gears up for his next two years in office and a 2014 re-election campaign.  Still, the Republican former attorney general acknowledges he should do a better job of practicing it.  Since Corbett became governor last year, many of the major legislative accomplishments have attracted just a handful of votes from Democrats. The Legislature has been controlled by heavy Republican majorities for the last two years.  Corbett doesn’t disagree that his legislative accomplishments largely excluded Democrats, and says he needs to do a better job reaching out to them.  Democrats say they’re open to working with Corbett. Needy Family Fund makes progress

SUNBURY — The Needy Family Fund has so far reached $9,520 of its $75,000 goal.  Recent donations to the fund include a $175 donation from Martin and Pauline Pope of Selinsgrove. A $150 donation was received from William and Gail Zimmer of Lewisburg.  Rounding out the current total are $295 in donations from anonymous givers.  Donations can be dropped off at any branch of the Susquehanna Bank.  More details are posted at (Codi Jade) Follow

NFF: Illiterate mother wants good Christmas for daughter


SUNBURY — Sandra, a 27-year-old single mother, struggles to get by on Social Security and food stamps. Rent and utilities take a significant chunk of her money.  For the first time, she is seeking help from the Salvation Army this holiday season. She’s not asking for anything for herself. But her 6-year-old daughter, Cassandra, certainly would like to find baby dolls, especially Barbie items, under the Christmas tree.  “I have no help and her dad’s not in her life,” Sandra said.  “I just want my daughter to be happy.” Sandra is unemployed.
