Harry Campbell is the Pennsylvania Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and says each individual landowner has the ability and the responsibility to protect and restore the condition of streams in their backyard. “If you don’t have trees, plant them,” says Campbell. “Pennsylvania has guidance manual on how to do it right. Man injured in Route 61 crash

  STONINGTON — A Sunbury man was injured on a Route 61 crash Friday night. According to State Police in Stonington, 37-year-old Dustin Bell was traveling on Route 61 near Haas Manor Road in Upper Augusta Township around 8:00p.m. They say his car went off the road and hit a pole, and mailboxes, and rolled over.   Bell was not wearing his seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries. He was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, where he is now listed in fair condition. The investigation continues. (Codi Jade)   Follow

Chimney fire damages a Herndon area home

  HERNDON – A fire hit a home in the Herndon area Friday evening. Northumberland County Communications tells us, the chimney fire was reported around 10pm along Broom Town Road in Jackson Township, Northumberland County. No injuries were reported at the scene, and volunteers from more than a half-dozen fire companies responded. No further details out yet on that fire.     Follow

A well-known local coach is retiring


  BLOOMSBURG – A big topic of discussion on WKOK’s Steve Jones Show yesterday was the retirement of Danny Hale. Hale is the head football coach at Bloomsburg University and he says he’ll step down at the end of this year.   Hale, by any measure, is considered a successful coach. In longevity, he coached the Huskies for 20-years, and has a record of 175-56 and 1. He holds Bloomsburg University’s record for the most coaching victories.     Follow

Shamokin accused arsonist faces more charges

  SHAMOKIN – The man accused of setting an arson fire in Shamokin is now facing more charges. 21-year-old James Neidlinger was charged last month with setting one fire, now police say he has admitted setting more. Officers tell us more than a dozen new charges are filed, stemming from two other fires in Shamokin. The new charges include burglary, and police say the arsons followed successful burglaries at the three buildings.     Follow

Public meeting on Route 45 construction


  MIFFLINBURG — Mifflinburg residents will get a chance to speak up about PennDOT’s latest project. A public meeting will be held regarding the status of the Route 45 section 12M reconstruction project. PennDOT’s Rick Mason said, “This roadway reconstruction project includes curb ramps, as well as additional reconstruction along Route 45, known locally as Chestnut Street through the borough.   The project began last fall and it’s currently in a winter shut down. It is ready to resume this spring on the section of road between Route 104 and Forest Hill Road.” PennDOT’s contractor Don E.   HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Gov. Tom Corbett is taking more time to decide whether to challenge Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s rejection of his effort to hire a British firm to manage the $3.5 billion Pennsylvania Lottery. A Department of Revenue spokeswoman said Friday the administration and London-based Camelot Global Services agreed to extend the firm’s bid through March 18. Spokeswoman Elizabeth Brassell says the administration has a March 16 deadline to appeal Kane’s decision in court. Sunbury man injured in accident


STONINGTON —  A Sunbury man was injured on a Route 61 crash last night.  According to State Police in Stonington, 37-year-old Dustin Bell was traveling on Route 61 near Haas Manor   Road in UpperAugustaTownship around 8:00p.m. last night.  For unknown reasons his car exited the right side of the roadway.  Bell struck a utility pole and three mailboxes.  His vehicle began to roll and came to a rest on its roof.
