Mayor says Sunbury Armory could be city’s 10th ward


SUNBURY – The Sunbury Armory could be another location of growth for the city.  Mayor David Persing says the 1930’s era building would be well worth the investment.  “It is nearly 10 acres of ground and would be clearly be a good site if you want to talk about a building development or possible expansion for recreation.  It sits next to Chief Shikellamy, so maybe there would be some interest from the school district.  I think it would be huge for the city of Sunbury if we could acquire that.” Persing says he has been talking with state officials about getting an appraisal for the building and putting it up for bid.  “Maybe we could be sitting…

Man exposes himself to Dornsife teenager


DORNSIFE — State police are investigating a case of indecent exposure in Northumberland County.  According to Stonington police, a man between the ages of 20 and 30-years-old was driving on Hooflander Road in Jordan Township around 3:00p.m. on Thursday.  The man pulled off the road as a 13-year-old girl was walking home aftfrom her bus stop in Dornsife.  After attempting to touch the girl, he made a comment about her upper body and then exposed himself to her. New women’s health office in Sunbury


SUNBURY — Women have a new option for health services in The Valley.  Central Penn Women’s Health is now open on Arch   Street in Sunbury.   Dr. Fred Teichman was at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday.   He said, “We’re hopeful that the women in this area will come to know that we are here offering women’s health services.  We do services here in the office, and also surgeries that may be necessary at SunburyHospital.”   Teichman said they hope to always be available for women in need.  “We are open five days a week during normal business hours.  We do have evening hours also available,” he said.  “If a problem ever does come…

Casey favors a reasonable ban on military style weapons


  WASHINGTON – Senator Bob Casey says they Senate is facing three votes on three different measures regarding gun control measures. He spoke about the upcoming votes to WKOK.   Casey said, “One is a reasonable ban on military style weapons. I would favor that. Two is a background check, which is probably the most bipartisan of the three. I will support a bill on background checks. Three is the so called magazine vote, which is a limitation on the number of bullets to 10. NORTHUMBERLAND — Northumberland Police Chief Tim Fink will soon be working as a patrolman in Point Township, leaving his job as chief behind. Fink decided to take a different job with Point Township in about three weeks.   He said, “I just felt like I needed a change, while staying in the career of law enforcement. Man charged with burning a child will go to trial

LEWISBURG – A Lewisburg man accused of burning his girlfriend’s young daughter will go to trial after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing in Union County. 24-year-old Stephen Childress is charged with a felony count of child endangerment along with simple assault for the incident in April. Police say Childress put the 2-year-old girl in a scalding bathtub. The child was flown to the Lehigh Valley Burn Unit for treatment of second and third-degree burns. She also had other injuries, according to court records. Childress is free awaiting trial. (Ali Stevens) Follow

PointTownship police hire Tim Fink   NORTHUMBERLAND — In a quick, unanimous show of hands, the Point Township supervisors last night hired a new police patrolman–he is Northumberland police chief Tim Fink. The PointTownship police chief Josh VanKirk tells, that Fink is eminently qualified, is a sound, experienced and well-trained officer. He is also a firearm’s instructor for police.   Fink will begin his duties in about three weeks. He has been the police chief in Northumberland since 2004.Point police have had a vacancy since the dismissal of Patrolman Wade Lytle last November–he was let go after he became romantically involved with the victim in a rape case.   Follow

  WILMERDING, Pa. (AP) – Police say a western Pennsylvania mother seeking a “fresh start” abandoned her 8-month-old daughter in the woods with a bottle of milk. Police say 24-year-old Jennifer Cutruzzula, of Wilmerding, walked into the woods Wednesday night and dropped off the baby. A neighbor who saw Curuzzula leave the woods without the child found the baby crawling on her stomach along a muddy hillside and alerted authorities. Temperatures were in the mid-30s with light rain falling. Police say Cutruzzula told them she was having difficulty at home and wanted “a fresh start.” KDKA-TV reports that the baby was taken to a hospital and is doing fine.
