STATE COLLEGE — A winter storm will march across the U.S. but it may just march right around us. AccuWeather says they are closely watching what will be a major winter storm for some of the U.S., and while it MAY affect us, current forecast models show it going off to our south. At this point, our Wednesday and Thursday forecasts only call for the chance of snow, but AccuWeather’s Elliot Abrams it could affect us. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell says Penn State is making steady progress in implementing the requirements outlined by the NCAA following sanctions for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Mitchell, the independent athletics integrity monitor, also said in a statement Friday that the university is making progress in implementing recommendations from Louis Freeh following the former FBI director’s internal investigation into the scandal. The school has said the recommendations were designed to strengthen governance, compliance, and reporting. The NCAA last summer named Mitchell the independent athletics integrity monitor for the university after college sports’ governing body levied strict sanctions. Gov. DANVILLE — A Danville woman was arrested for her alleged involvement in making homemade methamphetamine. The Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force charged 25-year-old Peggy Reider. Reider was arraigned and jailed in the Columbia County prison Friday. She was charged with several counts of manufacturing methamphetamines, including possession with intent to deliver, manufacturing a controlled substance and operating a methamphetamine lab. She is being held on $250,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is set for March 11. (Codi Jade)
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says he is abandoning his bid to seek reelection, but will remain in office. Ravenstahl made the announcement Friday after speculation fueled by an aide’s comments earlier this week that the mayor would soon be calling a news conference to discuss “some issues.” That prompted reporters to camp outside the mayor’s office Thursday for an announcement, which never came, until Ravenstahl’s Friday morning news conference. Ravenstahl became the city’s youngest-ever mayor at age 26. SUNBURY — State police are investigating a burglary in Northumberland County. Troopers say a cabin was burglaed on Buchs Hollow Road, Rockefeller Township between February 1 and March 1. The burglar entered the cabin by breaking down the rear door. Once inside, the actor stole two space heaters and a lighter. The investigation continues. SELINSGROVE — Two teens were charged with retail theft at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Friday. According to Selinsgrove police, two Danville girls, 16 and 17-years-old, were caught with stolen merchandise from Claires Boutique around 4:30p.m. The girls left the store without paying for $30 worth of jewelry. Charges have been filed. The teens have not been identified due to their age. (Codi Jade)
