(AP) – The Pennsylvania charity for troubled youths started by convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky is seeking permission to transfer money to a Texas ministry so that mentoring programs can be offered this spring. The Second Mile needs a judge’s approval to transfer $200,000 to Arrow Child & Family Ministries. The charity was financially crippled by the sex scandal involving Sandusky who was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse.   Its plans to shift programs and millions of dollars in assets to Arrow has been on hold until the resolution of any damage claims filed by lawyers for Sandusky’s victims.   HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – A third Republican state senator is breaking with conservatives and Gov. Tom Corbett to support an expansion of Medicaid eligibility under the 2010 Affordable Care Act. The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reports Sen. Lloyd Smucker told a town hall meeting Wednesday that the federal dollars accompanying the expansion would ease the burden on Lancaster General and other hospitals that treat the uninsured. Two other Republican senators publicly support it. They are Senate Banking and Insurance Committee Chairman Don White of Indiana County and Majority Policy Committee Chairman Edwin Erickson of Delaware County.   LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Leah Smith of Oakland Catholic has upset two-time Class AAA girls 200-freestyle champion Meaghan Raab of Hershey at the PIAA swimming and diving championships. Smith, a senior, finished in 1:45.52, just .42 of a second shy of Raab’s 2012 PIAA record in the 200 free, with an exceptional final leg to pull off one of the biggest upsets in meet history.   Smith is an accomplished distance swimmer and holds the Class AAA girls state record in the 500 freestyle.
