Suspected shoplifter pulls knife on Walmart employee

SHAMOKIN — Police are investigating an assault at the Coal Township Walmart last night.  According to the News Item, police from CoalTownship and Shamokin were called to the store around 8:00p.m. for a reported assault. Police say a loss prevention associate suspected a shopper of retail theft.  When he tried to confront them, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife on the associate.  The suspect then fled the store. The associate is said to have suffered an injury to his jaw.  Police remained in the store for one hour reviewing surveillance footage.  The investigation continues.  (Codi Jade) Follow

Mobile home fire spread to workshop

BLOOMSBURG — A mobile home was badly damaged by fire in Columbia County yesterday (Saturday).  According to the Press Enterprise, the fire was reported at 228 Wirt St. in Bloomsburg around noon.   The residents, 20-year-old Carrie Millington and her 4-year-old daughter were not home when the blaze broke out.  A neighbor noticed the flames and led the girls’ dog away from the fire.  The mobile home is owned by Terry Shultz, who does have insurance.   The flames allegedly spread to a small workshop nearby, which sustained minor damage.   The Press Enterprise reports that a State Police Fire Marshal said the cause would most likely be ruled “undetermined” due to the amount of…

Mobile home fire in Columbia County

Breaking news

BERWICK — Crews were called to a structure fire in Columbia County this morning.  According to Columbia County 9-1-1, the fire started around 5:30 a.m.  at a mobile home at 1633 Franklin Street in Berwick. The fire was put out and crews returned to service around 7:40a.m. this morning.  No injuries were reported.  (Codi Jade) Follow
