SELINSGROVE – PennDOT will soon be detouring northbound traffic on Route 522 in Selinsgrove, while they work on rehabilitating a heavily traveled bridge. The Green Bridge in Selinsgrove will be closed to northbound traffic from April 3rd through August 21st and some area businesses will be hard to access, including Zimmerman Motors located near the bridge. Owner Bob Zimmerman is frustrated with the detour. Zimmerman said, “The state and PennDOT took into consideration the job itself, but never took into consideration the impact that the detour would have on the retail businesses and consumers as they try to approach the businesses.” He says the detour will make it a challenge for customers…
MILTON – Motorists traveling Interstate 80 in NorthumberlandCounty can expect some delays this afternoon. A lane closure is in effect in the westbound lanes of I-80 near Exit 212. BLOOMSBURG —Another piece of local history is being destroyed. Bloomsburg University plans to tear down the old Magee mansion–the art-deco landmark building on Route 11, near the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. The Press-Enterprise quotes school officials who say it has flooded one too many times. The building is a modernistic landmark between Route 11 and the fairgrounds. The university has reached an agreement with the Magee Family Foundation to demolish the structure built by carpet magnate Harry Magee in the 1940s and give the land back to Magee’s family. SELINSGROVE – More bad news for commuters getting in and out of Selinsgrove: The Green Bridge, the steel bridge over Penns Creek, will be closed occasionally during upcoming construction. Work on the truss bridge on Route 522 (near Selinsgrove Ford) in Selinsgrove will begin next week. Work on the $2-million project starts Monday. Traffic control will be set up during the first week, as they make structural steel repairs to the bridge and replace the deck and sidewalk. According to PennDOT, a detour will be in effect for the northbound traffic from April 3 through August 21. The detour for through traffic will follow Market Street, Route 35, and Routes 11/15 northbound….
SHAMOKIN — Motorists can expect delays on some Northumberland County roads in the coming days. Starting this Friday, PennDOT will begin sweeping and crack-sealing operations on the Upper Road (Rt 2044) in East Cameron Township. On Tuesday, March 26, PennDOT will sweep and crack-seal on Route 61 through the Kulpmont Borough. No parking bans will be in effect, but motorists can expect some work zone delays. (Codi Jade)
