Watch volunteers in action during Day of Action: SUNBURY – Woodworking, painting and landscaping.  It was all part of Friday’s Day of Action.  An initiative by the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way volunteers helped at local non-profits and human service organizations. Sunbury Rotarian Ned Clark of Northumberland was helping at the Degenstein Community Library in Sunbury for the sixth year.  “Any community shows its strength by the amount of volunteerism.  Sunbury has improved greatly because people do volunteer.” Over 170 volunteers helped in Northumberland, Snyder and UnionCounties.  Andrea Tufo, Executive Director of the DonaldHeiterCommunity Center in Lewisburg, says volunteers were giving the center a facelift.  “They are building shelving, repairing the floor in the attic,…

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Penn State’s Board of Trustees have approved governance reforms on the same day that two incumbent trustees learned they were voted out by alumni in a contentious election. Paul Suhey and board vice chair Stephanie Deviney lost their seats Friday after facing vocal opposition from critics angered by the board’s actions in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.  Three alumni seats were open on the board. The third seat belonged to Steve Garban, who resigned last summer. Winning election were Barbara Doran, William Oldsey and Ted Brown. Nonprofit founder charged with theft

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) – A Jersey Shore man faces felony theft charges for allegedly stealing more than $500,000 from the nonprofit company he founded to help troubled youths. An affidavit filed Friday by the district attorney’s office charges that 46-year-old James McCloy of Jersey Shore stole more than $530,000 between 2009 and 2012 from Susquehanna House Inc. The affidavit claims he spent it on things that included gambling and strip clubs, divorce payments to his ex-wife and loan payments on his former residence. McCloy is the founder and president of Susquehanna House, which owns properties in Linden, JerseyShore, Montoursville, Williamsport and Atlantic   City, N.J.
