Attempted child abduction in Middleburg

MIDDLEBURG — A 13-year-old Middleburg boy escaped abduction this morning.  According to police, the boy was walking on West   Market Street on his way to Midd-WestMiddle School around 8:30a.m. when he was approached by a strange man.   The man allegedly said “Come on, you’re coming with me.”  The boy then attempted to run away, when the man grabbed the back of his shirt.  The boy was able to escape and run to safety.   The man is described as a white male around 40-years-old with light-colored hair.  He may be approximately 200 pounds and 5’10” tall, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.  Anyone with information on the attempted child abduction is asked to contact…

Week two of a murder trial in Snyder County is underway

MIDDLEBURG – Week two of a Snyder County murder trial has begun. The prosecution continues to call witnesses in the case. District Attorney Mike Piecuch says 37-year-old Robert Reich of Beavertown, 39-year-old Christopher Auker of Beavertown and 37-year-old Ryan Sprenkel of Middleburg, repeatedly punched and kicked 21-year-old Donald Seebold III at a party in July of 1997.   Following the assault, Seebold was left on the side of Troxelville Road and then later picked up by Sprenkel, who allegedly placed him in the backseat of a car. The following morning Seebold was found dead in the car. Testimony is expected to continue throughout the week, following a full week of testimony last week. All three…

ELYSBURG — The investigation continues following a weekend party, where 25 people face underage drinking charges.  Stonington State Police say they responded to a location in Rush Township, Northumberland County around 5:30a.m. Sunday.  Police say about 25 juveniles were having a post-prom party with drinking involved.  An investigation continues. Man charged after bridge fall

SELINSGROVE — A Lewisburg man suffered minor injuries after falling off a bridge.  Stonington State Police say 22-year-old Matthew Stenglein was walking over the railroad bridge on the Isle of Que in Selinsgrove when he fell into the Susquehanna River.  The incident happened Saturday around 4:00a.m.  Police say Stenglein is facing public drunkenness charges. Diocese: Harrisburg bishop died of heart attack

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Diocese of Harrisburg officials say Bishop Joseph McFadden died of a heart attack last week after suddenly falling ill while attending a meeting of the Catholic Bishops of Pennsylvania. McFadden died unexpectedly Thursday morning at a hospital near Philadelphia. Officials say McFadden awoke feeling ill and was taken to a hospital. He was 65 years old.  Church officials say McFadden’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday following several days of services.  His body was received at St. Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg on Sunday night and will lie in state until Tuesday evening. The funeral will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Harrisburg. Burial will be at HolyCrossCemetery. All…
