STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Penn State is banning bags from home athletic events this fall. Penn State announced Friday it is prohibiting backpacks, bags and purses from athletic facilities including Beaver Stadium, the Bryce Jordan Center and Rec Hall. Each fan will be permitted a single clear gallon-size plastic bag for medical and child-care items, officials said. Items abandoned at entry gates will be tossed. Susquehanna University is pulling one of its rare instruments from the vault for a performance by pianist Trevor Stephenson, the first of four artists in the Martha Barker Blessing Musicians-in-Residence series. The free, public performance will begin at 8 p.m. Sept. 19 in Stretansky Concert Hall of the Cunningham Center for Music and Art. Stephenson is a renowned performer, recording artist and noted expert in keyboard instruments. He will play his modern replicas of an Italian harpsichord from 1680 and a fortepiano from 1780, in addition to one of Susquehanna’s rare instruments—a Clementi square piano from the early 19th century made in England.

Bucknell University’s Bucknell Brigade will host its fifth annual Making it to Managua 5K race Saturday, Sept. 20. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg; the race begins at 10 a.m. Registration fees are $15 in advance, $20 on the day of the race. Participants will receive a water bottle with registration – bottles will be handed out on race day. All proceeds benefit the free health clinic in Managua, Nicaragua, that the Bucknell Brigade helps to fund.
