Route 11 in Danville slow going

DANVILLE — Construction has been causing some delays in the Danville area.  Travelers have been complaining of congestion on Northbound Route 11, due to roadwork.  Traffic is currently backed up about a half mile out of town.   Callers have said travel has been this way for the past few days.  Expect delays if you are in the area.  You may want to consider an alternate route.  (Codi Jade) Follow

Sunbury woman remembered after Maine death

MACHIAS, MAINE – A Sunbury woman is being remembered following a tragic accident in which she and a pregnant friend died.  38-year-old Melissa Moyer of Sunbury and 37-year-old Amy Stiner, who lived in Maine, but was originally from Bloomsburg, died  Tuesday.  They reportedly drove the wrong way into water off of the coast of Machias, Maine. Tricia Shambach lives in Selinsgrove, but met Missy in high school.  Shambach says she knew Moyer was taking a trip and had heard from her before she left.  “I heard from her last week when she was going to Maine.  She was going to order lobster up there and asked me if I would be interested in any.” When she…

Minor accident snags traffic on I-80

DANVILLE — Traffic is backed up for several miles on Interstate 80 westbound.  According to PennDOT, traffic is snagged back to the Danville Interchange due to a minor crash near the Northumberland/Montour County line.   Westbound motorists are again reminded to stay alert for the changes due to construction on I-80.  The single-lane work zone traffic pattern is expected to be removed by around 6:00p.m.  In the meantime, you may want to plan for extra time or consider an alternate route. Mifflinburg plans party for Go Joe 16

SHAMOKIN – WNEP meteorologist Joe Snedeker continues to bike through our area, raising money for the St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton. After stopping in Shamokin Tuesday night, Snedeker will begin Wednesday (today) by going to Elysburg, through Bloomsburg, Danville, Sunbury, Selinsgrove, Middleburg and ending the day in Mifflinburg.  Mifflinburg mayor David Cooney says there is a festival in Joe’s honor.  “We have all kinds of kid-friendly activities as well as refreshments.  I am also told there may be other surprise Channel 16 guests in tow when Joe arrives.” Cooney says Mifflinburg is pleased to have Snedeker back to their town.  “When I spoke to the folks at Channel 16, they told me that Mifflinburg gave…

  SUNBURY – The debate on whether or not marijuana should be legalized has been a hot topic recently on WKOK’s On The Mark program. Last week, District Attorney Tony Rosini stated he doesn’t think the drug should be legalized, but the classification should be lowered so marijuana is not on the same level as other drugs such as heroin and cocaine. Night paving slowing traffic

UNDATED — In SnyderCounty, night paving is slowing traffic on Route 15. The work near the Intersection of Route 11 and Route 15, is causing delays from 6pm to 6am. Additionally, lane restrictions for motorists exiting the VeteransMemorialBridge, include a new stop sign during the night work. PennDOT is repaving three-mile section of Route 15, from the intersection with Route 11 at Shamokin Dam, north to the Union-Snyder county line. PennDOT’s Rick Mason says, “There are long-term lane closures which will cause traffic delays during the project. All work under this project is scheduled for completion by September 27. Southern Columbia coach dies

COALTOWNSHIP — A sad story in the Catawissa area. The head coach of the Southern Columbia Area varsity women’s basketball team has died. The News Item reports 45-year-old Kevin Collins died Tuesday.  The Northumberland County Coroner has said Collins died of a massive heart attack. Collins was reportedly stung by a bee on the foot at his West Independence Street home.  An ambulance responded and he passed away shortly after. Collins coached one year as the women’s varsity basketball coach. He had also been a varsity assistant coach for the men’s team at Southern Columbia and a volleyball coach at Our Lady of Lourdes. Kulpmont police chief retires

  KULPMONT – The Kulpmont borough police chief has resigned. The News Item reports borough council accepted the retirement of Richard Wilson III on a 6-0 vote during a special meeting with council members.   Wilson was hired by Kulpmont as a part time officer in 2007 and was promoted to chief in 2008. The police force was placed out of service for a couple of days last week because a previous police liability insurance carrier announced it was not renewing the borough’s policy. Officers were back on the job two days later when a new policy was found, but with a significantly higher premium.   The police chief resigning is expected to save the…
