I-80 rest stop closed overnight


DANVILLE — Travelers on Interstate 80 eastbound will have one less rest area tonight.  According to PennDOT, the Danville east bound rest area at mile marker 219 will be closed overnight.   The rest stop is apparently have an electricity issue.  The rest area will be closed between 8:00p.m. Monday night and 7:00a.m. Tuesday morning.  PennDOT electricians are expected to troubleshoot the issue first thing Tuesday morning.  (Codi Jade) Follow

House fire in Sunbury

SUNBURY — A home in Sunbury caught fire Monday afternoon.  According to Emergency Services, the fire at a home at 1042 Line Street in the city was reported around 5:30 Monday evening.   No injuries were reported.  The fire was not well involved, and crews were able to get it under control in less than an hour.  (Codi Jade) Follow

Ryan Braun’s 65-game suspension last month and previous punishments bring to 18 the total number of players disciplined for their relationship to Biogenesis of America, a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida accused of distributing banned performing-enhancing drugs. Childcare center was evacuated earlier today


  Photo courtesy Danville Area Child Development Center   DANVILLE — Children were evacuated from a child care center in Danville today due to an electrical burning smell at the facility. Montour County Communications tells us, the ‘all clear’ has sounded and children are back in the facilility.   The Daily Item reported that the Danville Child Development Center was evacuated around 7:20 this morning after an alarm sounded. There were about 15 children at the center at the time of the alarm and all got out safely.   Firefighters searched the area and unplugged a soda machine with a smoking outlet. Mifflinburg man charged with raping a child


  MIFFLINBURG — A Mifflinburg man is behind bars, charged with raping a child. Charges were filed against 25-year-old Jorge Allen Martin including rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, incest and other counts. Police say Martin raped a 3-year-old girl for more than four months earlier this year at his home in Mifflinburg. He was sent to the Union County Prison after bail was denied.   Follow

Kitchen fire in Sunbury last night

SUNBURY – Sunbury volunteer firefighters were called to a kitchen fire last night in the city. The fire started at 249 Pine Street just before midnight. Emergency dispatchers say it was a small kitchen fire. There were no injuries reported. Crews were on the scene until 1:30 this morning investigating. (Ali Stevens) Follow

3-year-old hit by a car


SELINSGROVE – A 3-year-old boy was not serioulsy injured after being hit by a car in Selinsgrove, but police are looking for the driver who fled the scene. The incident took place just before 1 p.m. on Sunday. State police say the driver of a rust/orange colored Dodge Stratus struck the boy on South Market Street in Selinsgrove. The driver and a passenger were described as two white males with facial hair, and possibly a goatee. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at Selinsgrove. (Ali Stevens)   Follow

Burglary on Water Street in Selinsgrove


SELINSGROVE – Selinsgrove police are investigating a burglary at a home on South Water Street early Sunday morning. Police say numerous electronic items were taken as well as jewelry and coins. Three flat-screen televisions were taken along with three IPods, two gaming systems and multiple tools. Selinsgrove police have contacted police departments in Sunbury and Williamsport, in case any of the stolen items are sold at pawn shops. The investigation continues. (Ali Stevens)   Follow
