Police investigate multiple car thefts


NORTHUMBERLAND — Police are investigating a series of thefts and vandalism that occured this week in Northumberland County. State Police in Milton say sometime between 4 and 5 AM Friday morning, a person or persons reportedly damaged mailboxes, vehicles, repositioned yard items and stole hundreds of dollars in cash from vehicles along Old Route 15 and Village Green Trailer Court in West Chillisquaque Township. Hidden homelessness in rural areas


UNDATED – Being homeless in a rural area looks different.  Associate professor of sociology at Bloomsburg University Heather Feldhaus says in areas, like The Valley, there is a hidden homeless population. “Many homeless in a rural area may camp or live in a hunting shack.  What we see a lot too is people doubling up because we have bigger properties and it is more affordable.  We don’t see people out on the street as much in rural areas so we don’t think there is a problem.” Feldhaus is also the director of the Bloomsburg University Center for Research and Consulting and says quantifying homelessness in this area is difficult.  “This is all done through the…
