Discovery Lecture Series: “From Flax to Linen”

September 11, 2014 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

The Ned Smith Center is proud to announce the next installment of its 2014 Discovery Lecture Series: “From Flax to Linen” with Bro. Johannes Zinzendorf on Thursday, September 11 at 7 p.m.

The process of turning flax into linen has been called one of the best marriages of nature and art. Bro. Johannes Zinzendorf of the Hermitage in Pitman, Schuylkill County, will demonstrate the flax to linen process using colonial-era equipment and will show examples of traditional Pennsylvania German weaving.

After the demonstration, he will sign copies of “The Big Book of Flax” which he co-authored with Bro. Christian Zinzendorf, for those interested in purchasing them.

This event is part of the Discovery Lecture Series, a series of evening programs designed to educate the public about the natural world and inspire active participation in it.

Admission to the program is $5 per person. Ned Smith Center members can use their membership coupons to receive ½ price admission to the program. Advance tickets are available for purchase in the Center’s gift shop, by phone at 717-692-3699 or on the Center’s website,
