All invited to Relay For Life
DANVILLE — Spring is a great season to go walking — and why not walk for a great cause? Montour County’s Relay For Life is coming up Friday and Saturday and everyone is invited. Sarah Maciejewski is this year’s chair and she explains the importance of Relay.
“Not only is it for medication and trying to find a cure, it is also for emotional support. They also do transportation assistance,” she said. “They also do a wig salon program for people who are going through chemo, so they can go and get free wigs.”
Maciejewski says her involvement, like many others, is personal. “I became involved with Relay For Life 3 years ago when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. From there we started a team. We are encouraged to walk for 24 hours, because cancer doesn’t sleep.”
The Relay begins at 3:00p.m. at the Southside Fire Company in Riverside. Maciejewski hopes to grow the event and invites everyone to attend and support the American Cancer Society. There will be a craft vendor show on the relay grounds. A 5K race will also take place Saturday at 9:00a.m. at the Riverside school. (Codi Jade)
