An exciting election season is already underway

Sunbury- A female Sunbury resident would like to run for mayor. Julie Brosius announced Thursday night at Degenstein Community Library,  “I’d like to toss my hat in the ring for Mayor of Sunbury. The first women.” Brosius, who works at the Weis Center for research at Geisinger Meidcal Center, hopes that by running she can steer Sunbury in a new direction.  Brosius will be running as a republican against incumbent-mayor David Persing seeking his sixth term.

Brosius gathered with fellow citizens  to sign a petition established by Drake Saxton regarding permitting concerns at the Moran property. The Moran property in question is the former Celotex site. Brosius and her fellow citizens are concerned that a new water drainage plan will contaminate local drinking water and the Susquehanna River. When asked why Brosius was motivated to seek office she exclaimed, “I think too many times politicians are not listening to the community, they do as they please, and I think it’s time for a change.”  (Jillian Lewis)
