Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area opening
COAL TOWNSHIP — The dust is going to fly in Northumberland County this weekend — The grand opening of the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area is Friday. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the 6,500 acre outdoor recreation facility at 1:00p.m.
Speakers at the event will include Senator John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick), State Representatives Kurt Masser (R-107th, Elysburg) and Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108th, Sunbury), Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Ellen Ferretti, and the Northumberland County Commissioners.
The trailhead building and a 1,350 foot paved access road and parking lot was paid for through a state and federal grant of $3.7 million. An additional $1.2 million was awarded through the Department of Environmental Protection. A tour of the building will be offered. Yamaha Motor Corporation will also be on site to give tours of the area. (Codi Jade)
