Antiques on the Avenue in Selinsgrove
SELINSGROVE – Sunday is Antiques on the Avenue in Selinsgrove, which was formerly known as Antiques on the Isle. Last year, the event was moved from the Isle of Que to University Avenue to allow more space to the vendors. This Sunday, the public is encouraged to attend starting at 9 a.m.
Jane Hahn helps organize the event each year and said, “They are going to see 40 quality antique dealers. There will be collectibles, all kinds of antiques including furniture, jewelry, coins primitives, glassware and stoneware. You name it. If you collect it or want it or need it to complete your collection, you will find it there.”
Helen Walter says there will be a food stand available for those who attend and money raised from that will support a great cause. Walter said, “The Selinsgrove Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event and it’s a fundraiser for the scholarship fund. Each year, they award a scholarship to a Selinsgrove High School senior.”
Walter says antiquing is a very popular hobby. She said, “There seems to be a whole new interest and trend toward repurposing, reusing and restoring. A lot of the TV shows that are focused that way have kind of created a new interest in antiquing. Plus all the Internet ideas. There are million ideas out there about what to do with something. It’s just fun to be able to find something economical that you can reuse and make a beautiful item out of.”
