AP: PennDOT withholds funding plan from public
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has built a website that compares competing plans to spend billions of dollars in new transportation money, but it’s refusing to release similar information to the public, which will pay for chosen projects.
Department officials gave lawmakers access to the password-protected website almost two weeks ago but refused again Tuesday to detail the projects it expects to complete.
PennDOT officials say a spending plan isn’t final. Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Jake Corman says he sees no reason why PennDOT can’t make the plans public.
PennDOT’s website shows highway and bridge projects that would be completed under two plans: one Senate plan the House is considering and another Gov. Tom Corbett advocates. Information on each project includes a video clip.
Some projects will cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
