Bait and tackle shop welcomes Trout Season
SUNBURY — Saturday is opening day for trout season, and bait and tackle shops across The Valley are preparing for their busiest time of the year. Hollenbach’s in Sunbury is kicking the season off with overnight hours.
Dean Hollenbach is the shop owner. He said, “Friday night we are open all night, and usually people come in straight through the night. Guys come in early in the morning Saturday to get their minnies that way they don’t have to try to hold them overnight.”
He said fishing has not lost its popularity, as the sale of fishing licenses seems to be up this year. He said it’s a great activity that’s cheap for adults and free for kids. “An adult license is $22, and the trout stamp is $9.70 this year,” he said. ”I mean, if you figure if you spend $10 bucks to go to a move for two hours, you can spend twice that and go fishing every day of the year if you want to.”
Hollenbach’s Bait and Tackle is located along the Susquehanna River in Sunbury. They will be open all night Friday, to ring in the first day of trout season. (Codi Jade)
