Berwick hosting heroin addiction presentation

BERWICK — A local group will be holding a drug addiction program next week.  The Berwick Anti-Drug Alliance will conduct a presentation on heroin addiction.  The program, “How Heroin Addiction Impacts Our Community” will be held at the McBride Memorial Library in Berwick, Monday.

Salvation Army Lt. Kevin Polito founded the BADA.  He said, “This is a serious problem for families and communities.  Our program will discuss means of identification, patterns of use and the importance of citizen involvement in dealing with this issue.”

Heroin is becoming a large problem in Pennsylvania.  In 2013, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration found the top three U.S. states for heroin abuse are California with 56,000 heroin users, Illinois with 41,000 users and Pennsylvania with 40,000 users.

The program is free and open to the public at 6:00p.m. Monday.  For more information you can contact the McBride Memorial Library at 570 752-2241.  (Codi Jade)
