Blaze destroys the Barnyard Restaurant building

MILLMONT — Fire all but destroyed the building housing The Barnyard Restaurant, in Millmont, last night.  The western Union County fire was reported around 9:00p.m. in an exhaust fan in the kitchen.

About two dozen people work at the facility, and four were inside the restaurant when it closed at 8:00p.m.  Employees did attempt to stop the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but were unsuccessful.  The fire spread quickly to the front and east sides of the building.  The rear of building did partially collapse.

No injuries were reported in blaze.  The Route 45 eatery was once the Rock Oak Country Kitchen, and is now owned Troy Harvey.  A dozen volunteer fire companies responded from Snyder, Union and Northumberland counties.  Crews were on the scene, just west of Mifflinburg, for close to three hours last evening.
