Bridy disagrees with judge’s opinion; ready for court
SUNBURY – Northumberland County Commissioner Stephen Bridy says now that a judge has issued an opinion, he is looking forward to the court hearing the appeal regarding row officer salaries. In a release to the press, Bridy says, “This is what we have been waiting for the past eight months. We needed the judge’s opinion so the case could proceed further in the appellate court.” Bridy also points out that Judge David Grimes’ recent statement was not a new ruling, but just an opinion. Bridy adds an opinion that he, “obviously disagrees with.”
In November, Judge Grimes upheld a preliminary injunction, which allowed a freeze on row officer salaries in Northumberland County until a full court hearing. In Grimes’ opinion issued last week, he calls the proposed salary reductions “startling.” Bridy and Commissioner Vinny Clausi voted in favor of the cuts, while Commissioner Rick Shoch voted against.
Bridy says, “Since [the judge] has finally issued his opinion, we are now in a position to better assess our appeal.” You can read Bridy’s full comments here. (Sara Bartlett)
