Brush fire keeps crews busy in Coal Township

COAL TOWNSHIP – A brush fire in Coal Township kept volunteer firefighters busy for more than five hours this morning. Emergency dispatchers say the fire started around 12:30 a.m. in a wooded area off of Big Mountain Road.


The fire burned about an acre of land, but no property damage was reported. Coal Township and Zerbe Township firefighters were on the scene until about 6:00 a.m. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was also called to the scene. No injuries were reported. (Ali Stevens)
