Celebration going out with a bang — and a splash

SUNBURY — Sunbury is continuing their celebration with a long list of activities going into the weekend.  Jenna Eister-Whitaker of the Sunbury Celebration committee said Friday’s splash hop is sure to be a hit with your kids.

“Our Splash Hop will start at 7:30p.m. and run until 9:00p.m.,” Eister said.  “Basically, just come out for a free swim… Enjoy the evening.  We have the slides, the rock wall, free hot dogs and water as well with that.  Some music will be provided.  It’s always a big turnout… The kids love it. Everyone is also invited to try laser tag in the Sunbury Ice Rink for just $5 during pool hours.”

Saturday is the biggest day of celebration in the city.  “We have ShaggyMountain Farms with a petting zoo,” Eister-Whitaker said.  “We’ll have Hershey’s Ice Cream with free ice cream for children under 18-years-old.  We will have Wagner’s Dream with free horse rides.  Sunbury Community Pool will have swimming as well for free until 6:00p.m.  We have the DegensteinYouthCenter and YMCA dance.  Then from 7:00p.m.-9:00p.m. we have Memory Lane.”

The fireworks start at 9:30p.m. Saturday night, with our sister station 94KX providing the soundtrack.  Then Sunday is the 12th Annual Soapbox Derby at 11:00a.m.  Eister said children ages 8-12 can participate and register that morning between 9:00-10:30a.m.
