Chamber looking locally to hire CEO

UNDATED – The search for a new CEO of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce continues.

Jim Barbarich, who is serving as the interim CEO, says the search will stay local.  “This is not a national search.  We feel there is a solution that lives amongst us and that that person can provide great value and be more effective because they do not have to figure out where we are or who we are.”

Barbarich told a crowd Thursday at a chamber meeting some of the traits they are looking for in a CEO.  “We are looking for someone who has a degree, preferably in business.  We are looking for someone who has been in the role of a senior manager.  We are looking for someone who knows how to build business relationships.”

Barbarich says the chamber spent a significant amount of time deciding whether it made sense to merge with the Central Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce, but concluded that it was not the right time to do so.  He says they hope to have a new CEO by April 1, but says they will take as long as needed to find the right fit for the chamber.
