Chamber welcomes new leader
SHAMOKIN DAM — “It feels like coming home,” that was the words of the new President and CEO of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce. Bob Garrett was officially welcomed to the GSVCC staff Thursday morning.
During a press conference, Garrett said he plans to focus on 3 priorities, “Rebuilding our partnerships with our partners, SIDCO, Leadership Susquehanna Valley and Focus Central Pennsylvania. Bringing our membership up to its historic numbers and looking for membership growth. I’m also going to focus on building the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway.”
Garrett brings with him experience as an educator at the SUN Area Vocational Technical School. He is the former mayor of New Berlin and previously served as the chairman of the chamber’s transportation committee.
“I bring several experiences to this job,” Garrett said. “One as a former teacher and educator, working with the Leadership Susquehanna Valley group. I have experience in economic development and I hope to bring that here and try to always be looking to help the existing companies to expand, as well as recruit new companies. I am also bringing two decades of my experience with PennDOT to the table to rebuild the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway.”
Garrett says he is thrilled to be the new President and CEO of the chamber. He said driving up Routes 11/15 to get to the press conference Thursday morning felt like coming home. You can learn more about the GSVCC and Garrett at gsvcc.org. (Codi Jade)
