Cleanup project to focus on Susquehanna River
The Susquehanna River Cleanup Project is gearing up for its 2nd annual Cleanup to take place along the banks of the Susquehanna River. This year’s Cleanup will be held May 4th and take place at the Chillisquaque Access Area and Boat Ramp, south of Montandon, and proceed to the Point, in Northumberland. For the first time, the event will be followed by a celebratory concert at the Sunbury Amphitheater.
The Cleanup Project is still in need of volunteers to help out with both land and boating cleanups, shuttling volunteers, sorting garbage and recyclables, marketing efforts and fundraising. Sponsors are also needed to provide materials for the event.
The Cleanup Project began as a group of friends concerned about the health of the Susquehanna River and the debris on its shores from years of littering and Fall 2011′s extensive flooding. The group is now a registered non-profit and is a community and volunteer-centered organization based around the Central Susquehanna River Valley.
