Clock restoration celebration in Selinsgrove
SELINSGROVE – Selinsgrove will celebrate the restoration of the town clock on the corner of Market and Pine Streets on Saturday. Seasoned Sound, an 18-piece swing band will perform from 1:45 to 4 p.m. in the Selinsgrove Commons as part of the celebration.
Selinsgrove’s original “Town Clock” was installed in late January of 1922 on the outside wall between the two pillars of what was then the Farmer’s National Bank. Later the clock was removed from the building and posted in front of the newly constructed bank building, which was acquired by Snyder County Trust Company in October of 1942. The bank changed names and in early 2011, the First National Bank donated the clock to Selinsgrove Projects Inc. and a restoration project began.
The project is now complete and the clock chimes will ring for the first time in several years. Also, over 90 bricks have been sold that are placed in the sidewalk surrounding the clock. The purchasers of the bricks will be honored at the celebration on Saturday. Also SU Swings! Dance club will perform a dance in period costume. (Ali Stevens)
