Coaches are needed for Girls on the Run
SELINSGROVE – A fast growing organization aimed at improving the lives of young girls is looking for some volunteer coaches. Cheryl Stumpf is executive director of Girls on the Run of the Greater Susquehanna Valley.
Stumpf said, “I started Girls on the Run of the Greater Susquehanna Valley three years ago. It has grown exponentially. We started off with eight girls and we are now at four school districts and we had 11 teams and a total of 160 girls in the fall season.”
And what does Girls On the Run aim to do? Stumpf said, “Girls on the Run is a program designed to empower and engage girls to realize their limitless potential.” Stumpf says they address issues like peer pressure, body image and attitudes towards physical activity as they train to run a 5K race at the end of the season.
Stumpf says volunteers are the backbone of the program and she hopes some new help can come forward. The local Girls on the Run chapter is hoping to eventually expand into every local school district. To find out how you can volunteer to be a coach, visit www.girlsontherunsusquehannavalley.org.
