Three injured in Route 61 crash

SHAMOKIN — A Coal Township man was injured in a crash that closed Route 61 for 5 hours.  According to The Daily Item, 21-year-old Christopher Charowsky of Coal Township suffered major injuries when he was ejected from his vehicle.


Police say Charowsky was traveling northbound on Route 61 when he lost control of his vehicle.  The car slid across the center divider, flipped and came to a rest on its roof.  Charowsky was taken by life flight to Geisinger Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition.


Two passengers in his vehicle were also injured.  20-year-old  David Williams of Coal Township was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, but his condition is not currently available.  20-year-old Matthew Shaeffer of Shamokin was taken to Geisinger Shamokin Area Hospital, where he was treated and released.  The crash occured around 7:00a.m. and Route 61 was blocked for around 5 hours.  (Codi Jade)
