Columbia County turns 200

Columbia_County,_Pennsylvania_court_houseBLOOMSBURG — Columbia County will be hosting a big celebration next month.  March marks the county’s 200th birthday.

Commissioner Dave Kovach talked about the county’s history.  He said, “Columbia County separated from Northumberland March 22, 1813.  At that point, Columbia County included Montour.  Around 1845, Montour said ‘we want to be our own,’ and then they split off from us.”

Kovach said there will be a big celebration starting on March 22, with a reenactment at the courthouse.  Dignitaries from local, state and federal government will be invited to help with the proclamation.  Then Saturday, the celebration continues with a 5K race and parade.

Kovach said, “We’re inviting every group in Columbia County that has anything to do with Columbia County to come and be a part of this.”
