Commissioner: Warden is not in “hot water”
SUNBURY – Northumberland County Prison Warden Roy Johnson told WKOK Thursday that he does not believe his job is in danger. Northumberland County Commissioner Rick Shoch tells us he agrees that Johnson is not in “hot water.”
“For Commissioner Bridy and Commissioner Clausi to go out and demand the warden’s resignation, they are in no position to do that. The prison board as a whole would have to make a decision about that.”
Shoch says it is very telling that the prison board cannot even come to a majority decision to hold a special meeting about the issue. “It is indicative of the fact that the rest of the board, after looking at the facts, does not believe their [Clausi and Bridy] position is valid.
Issues in the prison arose when a local newspaper reporter was denied access to interview murder suspect Miranda Barbour, after Barbour had put the reporter’s name on the visitation list. Then name was then crossed off of the list. Johnson says there is a “wish list” for visitation, but there was no official visitation list and that inmates must be cleared before they have any visitors. (Sara Bartlett)
