Commissioners approve District Judge move
SUNBURY – A Sunbury area district judge is moving his office and it will save Northumberland County money. It was announced at the Northumberland County Commissioners public meeting Tuesday that, pending court approval, District Judge Ben Apfelbaum would move from his Market Street location in downtown Sunbury to the Northumberland County Administration building.
“I feel bad for the city of Sunbury to lose that revenue, but if we can help them in any way to fill that space we are taking away, we will try everything we can,” says Commissioner Vinny Clausi.
Clausi says moving a judge into the building will also add a layer of protection. “There is a law that if there is a judge in the building, then guns are not allowed. That is another reason we are doing this.” Clausi says the move will save the county about $15,000 a year. (Sara Bartlett)
