Concert to honor area teen
SELINSGROVE — A concert that was dreamed up over two years ago by an accomplished teenage violinst will finally happen Friday night. The concert will be held in honor of Brandon Bitner, the Susquehanna Valley teen who stepped in front of a tractor trailer along Routes 11 – 15 and took his own life in 2010. The bullying victim planned the concert for his senior project, but never got to see it through. Now, his friend Hunter Tompkins will be presenting the concert in honor of him.
Tompkins said she hopes the concert promotes awareness about bullying and suicide, and encourages young people to get involved in music.
The concert will be a mix of rock music and classical violin pieces. There will be a song by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which was the type of band Bitner dreamed of forming one day. Scandelle, from the band Ladyboi will make a guest appearance as well.
The concert will be held in the Midd-West High School Auditorium at 7p.m. Friday. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children. All proceeds will benefit the Brandon E. Bitner Memorial Scholarship Fund atSusquehannaUniversity, established by Bitner’s family to support the talents of Susquehanna music majors. (Codi Jade)
