VIDEO HERE: Congressman urges common sense

SHAMOKIN — Congressman Lou Barletta (R-11th, Hazelton) urged Washington common sense as he took a tour of Shamokin businesses Friday afternoon.  The first stop on the tour was at Coney Island Lunch, to hear from residents about their ideas and concerns.

Barletta spoke about the recent government shutdown and the lack of compromise between Republicans and Democrats saying, “I think we need to find the common ground, Democrats and Republicans, you know I am my own person so I am not going to let leadership tell me what to do. I think we have to use common sense and be practical and pragmatic. Nobody is going to get everything they want and if you have that attitude in Washington you are going to have the stalemate that we have seen here in the past and I don’t think that’s what the majority of American people want.”

Barletta, who is against Obamacare, also spoke about the future of the Affordable Care Act saying, “I believe that the Affordable Care Act will crash on its own. I believe that they won’t have the funds or money to sustain the program.”

Representative Barletta stopped in at many local businesses; he said “I want to make sure I’m hearing from the locals to find out exactly what I need to do to help.” (Sarah Lagerman)
