Consolidating polling places in Northumberland County on hold

SUNBURY — The Northumberland County Commissioner’s plan, to consolidate 21 voting precincts into 10 to save money, has been put on hold until next year. The News Item reports after hearing complaints from political candidates and other citizens, they postponed the move, even though it would have saved the county $24,000.

The original plan had the 10 polling places in four communities on the eastern end of the county. Now the commissioners say next year, the consolidation could involve 29 precincts down to 10 to save the county $30,000. A special election board meeting is set for 11 a.m. on Wednesday to rescind Tuesday’s resolution on consolidation. (Ali Stevens)
