Construction in Selinsgrove will tough for businesses
SELINSGROVE – PennDOT will soon be detouring northbound traffic on Route 522 in Selinsgrove, while they work on rehabilitating a heavily traveled bridge. The Green Bridge in Selinsgrove will be closed to northbound traffic from April 3rd through August 21st and some area businesses will be hard to access, including Zimmerman Motors located near the bridge.
Owner Bob Zimmerman is frustrated with the detour. Zimmerman said, “The state and PennDOT took into consideration the job itself, but never took into consideration the impact that the detour would have on the retail businesses and consumers as they try to approach the businesses.”
He says the detour will make it a challenge for customers to visit their dealership. Zimmerman said, “It will take half the traffic-flow away from our business. Our customers that will need to get to us are certainly not being helped or convenience in any way by having to go on a four mile detour to get to us.”
Zimmerman said they will try to have cost-savings and promotions for customers to appreciate their efforts for taking the detour to get to their business.
The detour is expected to be in place for most of the spring and summer. Southbound traffic will have access to the bridge, but delays are expected. (Ali Stevens)
