Construction of model Fort Augusta

SUNBURY – A scale model of Fort Augusta will be built in Sunbury.  The Northumberland County Historical Society will construct the outdoor model on the front lawn of the Hunter House in Sunbury.

Preston Ross of  Preston G. Ross and Son Construction says he was commissioned, along with John Reader, to rebuild the buildings and used some of the original pieces.  “Pretty much what were left were the original rafters.  We are trying to make everything look as original as possible.”

Ross says the model will be a great attraction for the city of Sunbury.  “Comments were made to me as we were rebuilding, saying people remember the buildings as a kid.  I want to say to people ‘here they are,’ and hopefully one day they will be put back up where they originally were in 1938.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Tuesday (tomorrow) at the Hunter House on North Front Street in Sunbury.  All are invited to the event at 11:00a.m. (Sara Bartlett)
