Danville notary charged with bilking customers
DANVILLE – A Danville woman is facing a number of charges for allegedly bilking customers while working as a notary. The Press Enterprise reports Natalie Wetzel bilked 177 customers out of more than $31,000 by keeping most of the fees she collected at Wetzel Notary Service.
She is also accused of bouncing more than $11,000 in checks. State police say customers began to complain saying they had not received PennDOT items they paid for at Wetzel Notary Service and found Wetzel had not submitted paperwork or forms were rejected due to bad checks. After searching Wetzel’s home, police found Wetzel collected fees for items such as vehicle and boat sales tax, title transfers and registrations and other registrations, but didn’t file the paperwork.
In all, she is accused of taking $31,058 from customers. She was released on bail pending a court date on 85 charges. (Ali Stevens)
