Dornsife man succumbs to injuries after Friday crash

NORTHUMBERLAND – A third person has died as the result of a head-on collision that happened along Route 11 in Point Township Friday morning. Police say 83-year old, Derl Kieffer of Dornsife, succumbed to injuries Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center. He was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash that killed his wife, 85-year old Kaye Kieffer, and 60-year old Jeffrey Robinson of Northumberland.

Police say Robinson was traveling south on Route 11 when he crossed the highway into oncoming traffic and struck the vehicle driven by Kieffer. Kieffer’s wife, Kaye, was a passenger and was pronounced dead at the scene. Robinson was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead later that day. A third vehicle driven by 78-year old, David Sickle of Sunbury, was also involved in the crash. Sickle was taken to the hospital for evaluation, where he was later treated and released.

Police say a medical emergency for Robinson may have led to the crash. Route 11, near the intersection with Ridge Road, was closed for several hours Friday. (Sara Lauver)
