Economics PA announces award recipient
SELINSGROVE – Each year, Economics Pennsylvania, based in Selinsgrove, presents their Adam Smith Leadership Award to someone who helps students learn valuable lessons about economics and entrepreneurship. This year’s award recipient was announced today by the President and CEO of Economics PA, Fritz Heinemann.
He said, “We chose Skip Wieder, who is so well-known in our community. He has given just so generously of his time and efforts and resources when he was with Geisinger and now doing almost full-time public service volunteer work. Skip will be our honoree this year.” Previous winners include former state representative Merle Phillips and current Senator John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick).
Wieder will be honored at a luncheon on March 7th at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club and tickets are now available at www.economicspa.org. The mission of Economics Pennsylvania is to ensure that young people understand essential economic and financial literacy concepts.
Heinemann said, “We are instilling within our students and young people a sense of value and integrity. Also a sense of understanding how important decisions are and choices. What’s happening globally and what’s happening in our country, I think what we are doing is more important than ever.”
You can hear more from Fritz Heinemann and former Pittsburgh Steeler, Andy Russell, who is actively involved in Economics Pennsylvania, on Tuesday’s On The Mark program, posted online at www.wkok.com. (Ali Stevens)
