SELINSGROVE – It was an awards luncheon you wouldn’t want to skip. The Adam Smith Leadership Award was presented to Skip Wieder today at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
Member of EconomicsPennsylvania and President of Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation, Roger S. Haddon, Jr., talked about his first encounter with Wieder at a United Way meeting in the ’90s. He said, “There was one individual who just seemed more concerned about how we were going to make the community a better place to live. So, I leaned over to the guy next to me and asked who the guy was. He said ‘that’s Skip Wieder’… It was right then and there that I decided that I didn’t need to look any further for a role model.”
Senator John Gordner (R-27th Berwick) presented Wieder with the award. Wieder accepted, saying, “I think this concept of EconomicsPennsylvania and service to others is so important. I look around at some of the people who are here today who are former recipients of this, and I can’t help but feel humbled to be included in a group like this.”
Each year, Economics Pennsylvania, based in Selinsgrove, presents their Adam Smith Leadership Award to someone who helps students learn valuable lessons about economics and entrepreneurship. Gordner and Haddon are previous winners of this award. (Codi Jade)
