Final beam raised on new Bucknell building

LEWISBURG — An orange beam, painted with the Bucknell “B” and signed by a number of faculty, staff and students, was lifted onto the university’s newest facility.

Known as Academic West, the 70,000 square foot facility is the first new academic building constructed at Bucknell since 2004 says university President John Bravman.  “This is for many of our social science faculty, it also has classrooms and meeting space for students, staff and faculty.”

The building, located on the southwest portion of campus, will anchor a new academic quad.  Jen Lassen, a Bucknell sophomore, is the Vice President of her class and says the new building represents growth.  “There will be a lot of features we are hearing about and we’re excited that the campus will expand not only academic growth, but student growth as well.”

A crowd showed up to see the last beam placed on the building Thursday morning.  Academic West is scheduled to be open for the 2013 fall semester. (Sara Bartlett)
