Fire destroys a Point Township home

POINT TOWNSHIP– Fire has destroyed a home in Point Township,Northumberland County.  The blaze broke out at 2048 Duke Street around 11:15 a.m.  The home was owned by Robert Whary, who smelled smoke and opened the basement door to find the fire in the cellar.  He was able to get out safely.  Whary says he doesn’t know what caused it.  He said he knows it started in the basement, but there was nothing down there.  His car was also destroyed by the fire.

The investigation will continue.  Whary says this is the second house fire he has survived.  He escaped his burning home two years ago, when fire destroyed his home on Catawissa Avenue in Sunbury.  That time it was determined a faulty electrical cord triggered the blaze.  (Ali Stevens)
